Matrix Teams Get Off to Great Start to Season
With Two Gold Medals and One Silver Medal
at Flames March Madness Tourney

Maryland Flames March Madness Tournament
The Matrix season got off to a great start on the Weekend of March 21-22.  At the Maryland Flames' March Madness Tournament, the 11U Black team and the 9U Black teams won gold medals while the 13U Green team took home a silver. 

Overall, it was an excellent March Madness Tournament for the Matrix.  In addition to the three medalists, the 12U Black team went 2-1, with its only loss to the defending AAU National champions, while the 10U Green team also went 2-1 for the weekend. 

11U Black
The Matrix 11U Black team got the season off to a great start by going 3-0 and bringing home the gold in the March Madness Tournament. 

The started out strong with win over the Fairfax Stars 10U National team before defeating the Baltimore Cougars on Saturday.  They then clinched the gold medal with a hard-fought victory over the Germantown Lady Panthers. 

The Matrix 11U Black team, the defending Potomac Valley 10-Under Division II silver medalists, have built on last year's team and will be competing in Division I for the 2009 seeason.  The team is coached by Pat Connole. 

9U Black
Playing up solely against 10U teams, the Matrix 9U Black team coached by Liz Reed swept to the gold medal at the March Madness Tourney with wins vs. Hoopsmart, and a Flames team and the MYBA Wildcats.  And just to stay busy, the team played two jamboree games on Saturday between games.

13U Green Team
The Matrix 13U Green team advanced the finals at the March Madness tourney, but had to settle for a silver medal for the weekend.  The 13U Green team is coached by Nick Cannon. 

Cardinal Jamboree
Four Matrix  teams entered the Cardinal Jamboree for the weekend.

In Saturday's action the Matrix 10U Black team went 6-1 on the day, with the loss being to the Vogues 11U National team.
