Chris Trahant
2016 White Team/8th Grade

Chris Trahant, Head Coach
2012 Matrix 2016 White Team

General Background: Coach Trahant was born in Arlington, and attended Washington-Lee High School, where he played basketball.  He graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a degree in Sports Management.  During the 2010 AAU season, Chris tied the knot with Jennie; he works in Arlington for a IT Defense Contractor.

Coaching Experience: Coach Trahant will be returning for his fifth season with the Matrix, all in a coaching partnership with Nick Cannon.  Coach Trahant and Nick switched roles in 2010 and 2011 will be Coach Trahant's second season as a Matrix head coach.  In addition to the past four Spring seasons with the Matrix, Coach Trahant coached during the 2007 and 2008 summers for the Matrix, as well as the 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 Winters for the Arlington Travel Basketball program.

Coaching Philosophy:  Coach Trahant is a firm believer in fundamentals and court awareness.  Both he and Coach Cannon believe in stressing individual skills that can translate to the team effort.  Additionally, both coaches believe in the importance of good defense.  If a team can play sound defense, they can create offensive opportunities while weakening their opponent's confidence.

Being a good teammate is very important as well.  Coach Trahant feels that a cohesive team will produce better results than a group of players - regardless of talent.  Coach Trahant encourages his players to develop their knowledge of the game, and to be the aggressor.

Herm Edwards once said, "You play to win the game."  Coach Trahant is a strong believer in winning, but understands the importance of good sportsmanship, having fun, working hard, and improving.

Above all, Coach Trahant believes in being a good teammate, giving full effort, and having fun.  He considers a successful season to be one that includes all of those attributes.
